Health Advice & Travel Insurance
It is important that prior to travelling overseas, you make the necessary arrangements to ensure that you are taken care of in case of sickness or injury whilst you are aware from home.
The E111 form can be downloaded from http://www.dh.gov.uk/PolicyAndGuidance/HealthAdviceForTravellers/fs/en and this entitles you and your family to emergency medical treatment and care from EU countries whilst you
are outside of the UK. Once you have downloaded the form, please complete and take to your local post office who will stamp and validate your application and ensure that the cover is in place prior to your departure from the UK.
Travel Insurance can be obtained from many sources within the UK, with the Internet being the main source of policies. It is well worth shopping around for a competitive quote, whether it be for one trip or if you are a frequent traveller, an annual policy.
In our experience the following insurers offer competitive prices and are worth checking out using the links below:
Also, the following website has a host of additional information for travellers including travel and health insurance and travel tips:
Foreign Currency
|
Euros can be obtained from a host of sources before you travel, and it is well worth shopping around for a competitive exchange rate and no commission charges. Additionally you can choose to draw out Euros whilst you are in Spain using the many ATM’s located along the Costa del Sol, if your card has either the Cirrus or Maestro logo on the rear. |
Please check with your bank regarding the charges for drawing foreign currency from your account whilst abroad before travelling, but this can be a convenient and more secure way of managing your finances while overseas.
Before you travel, ensure that you have your bank and credit card issuer details in case of emergency whereby your cards have been lost or stolen and you need to contact the issuer to ensure that the cards are disabled and unable to be used fraudulently.

Sun Protection
 |
During your holiday on the Costa del Sol you will be exposed to high levels of ultra violet rays from the strong sunshine. In order that you are well protected, and that you can achieve a glowing tan safely we have provided the following guide towards safe tanning. |
A tan is the body's way of protecting you against the sun. Follow these tips to minimise therisk of damaging your skin:
- Limit your tanning time to 2 hours maximum in one session.
- Use a sunscreen with a high SPF (at least 15) and reapply regularly.
- Remember sunscreen alone is not enough, and is of little benefit if you only use it to be able to sunbathe for longer.
- Avoid being in the sun during the times of 11 – 3pm.
- If you must be in the sunlight during this period (for example, if you're on a trip) wear sun protective fabrics (tightly woven materials such as cotton), loose fitting clothing and a sun hat.
- Protect yours and your children's eyes with proper sunglasses. Look for the Kitemark.
- Being in or around water increases your chances of burning due to reflection. Use waterproof sunscreen and reapply after swimming.
- Take extra care with children. They should wear waterproof sunscreen and T-shirts when swimming. You can also buy children's beachwear designed to give greater sun protection.
- When you apply insect repellent over sunscreen you stop the sunscreen sticking to your skin, and cut the effectiveness of both by at least half. If you need both either buy a sunscreen with built in insect repellent or wear a higher factor sunscreen next to your skin, with a generous layer of insect repellent over the top.
- Don't use old sunscreens, their effectiveness decreases dramatically after they have passed their use by date.
- Consider using a cream that contains a physical barrier to the sun, usually titanium dioxide "war paint" type sunscreens. This is particularly useful for children.
